PRESCHOOL (AGE 3 - 4)

JUNE 7  - AUGUST 23, 2023

A fun introduction to the basics of Irish Dance with a program specifically for young children. Students explore movement, rhythm, music, and song in an energetic class. Dancers develop coordination, social skills and gain confidence within the studio environment in a small class setting.  With individual focus and attention from our instructors and teaching assistants, preschool students learn the necessary skills required for Irish dance.

Children enrolling in the Preschool program should manage the class on their own without parent accompaniment. 

CLASS LENGTH: 60 min

SCHEDULE: Wed 5:30 - 6:30 pm

TERM FEE: $200 / Term 

 Plus 5% GST & $30 Yearly Registration (New Students)

Female Options Irish Soft Shoes, or Ballet Slippers(black), or Gymnastic Style Slippers (black), with ankle length poodle socks.

Male - Jazz Syle Shoes(black).

New dancers may begin wearing socks but should have the recommended footwear within the first few weeks of classes. Barefeet are not recommended for safety reasons.

New Irish Dance Shoes can be ordered on-line from Irish Dance Supply stores. Second Hand Shoes are an economic option for growing dancers and we have a school Facebook group dedicated to Buy and Sell for Second hand dance shoes and costumes.

Dance clothing should allow for non-restrictive movement. Long hair should be tied back. Limit jewellery for safety reasons.

BOTTOMS - Preferred Colour Black

Tights, leggings, yoga or dance pants, shorts and dance skirts should not impede dancers movement. For safety yoga and dance pants should not be longer than ankle length.

TOPS - Preferred Colour black

Bodysuits, Athletic Tops, and T-shirts should allow for movement.

NOT RECOMMENDED

Jeans, dress pants, sweat pants or dresses

Hoodies or sweatshirts

12 Week Term - $200 plus GST

A One-Time Yearly (Sept 2022 - Aug 2023) Registration Fee $30 is added for new students. Full Term payment is due upon registration. Dancers who wish to withdrawal after the first class will be provided a refund for the clases they did not attend. No refunds are offered after the first class and notification of early withdrawal must be received in writing (email).

A fun introduction to Irish dance.

Dancers learn basic Irish Soft shoe technique, rhythm, and timing in a one hour which includes warm up, technique and choreography.  Students learn the Basic Bunghrád Reel and learn their first Ceili (group) dance. Dancers develop technique, gain confidence, and social skills in a small class setting.  Once dancers learn the Bunghrád Reel they have the option to advance to the Level 1 - 3 class at anytime during the season for continued progress. Beginner dancers develop Irish dance technique and necessary skills required to advance to graded levels of Irish Dance.

CLASS LENGTH: 60 Min

SCHEDULE:

  • AGES    5 - 7  Wed 5:30 - 6:30 pm 
  • AGES   8 - 11 Wed 6:30 - 7:30 pm
  • AGES 12 - 17 Wed 7:45 - 8:45 pm

In this 1.5 hr class, students learn the 4 Bunghrád dances (Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, Light Jig) then move on to 5 Ullmhuchán dances (Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, Heavy Jig, Hornpipe ) and then 5 Meanghrád (Reel, Slip, Single, Heavy Jig, Hornpipe) Each level increases with difficulty and skill required. The class includes warm up, technique and students learn a ceili (group) dance and is suitable for both recreational and competitive students of all ages. Grade levels 1 - 3 are combined to allow students to advance easily for each dance. Hard are required for this class.  Bunghrád, Ullmhúchán and Meanghrád students progress at their own pace and dancers may spend one to three years in each level.

In this fun Adult's Only Class, adult students of all ages and abilities are welcome for Irish Soft Shoe and Ceili Group dancing.  From new beginner with no dance training to more experience dancers, all students are welcome in this fun and social "Adults Only" atmosphere. 

Irish Dance Warm up, Technique, and the basics of Irish dance starting with the Bunghrad (Beginner) Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, and Light Jig.   Ceilis (group dance) and figure dances with choreography are also included.

Winter 11 Week Session Students are invited to perform at St Patrick's Fest (March 17th, 2023).

Performance is optional and dancers will require school costume.

Costumes are only needed for dancers who wish to perform

Female - McConnell Malley Sport Dress or Plain Black Dress.

Male - McConnell Malley Sport Polo Shirt, Black Dress Pants
