McConnell Irish Dance Workshops
McConnell School of Irish Dance offers workshops with instruction for Recreational and Competitive Irish Dance. Irish dance workshops are great team building opportunities for corporate or family events. Ceili dancing, Solo Dancing, and Riverdance options are offered for all levels of expertise from complete beginner to advance levels.
Cumann Rince Náisiúnta (CRN) dances
- Bunghrád - Level 1 (Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, Light Jig)
- Ullmhuchán - Level 2 (Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, Heavy Jig, Hornpipe)
- Meanghrád - Level 3 (Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, Heavy Jig, Hornpipe
- Ardghrád - Level 4 (Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, Heavy Jig, Hornpipe, Contemporary Sets)
- Craobhghrád - Level 4 (Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, Heavy Jig, Hornpipe, Contemporary Sets)
- Traditional Set Dances - St. Patrick's Day, Humours of Bandon, Job of Journeywork, Blackbird, White Blanket, Garden of Daisys
- Team & Ceili Dances - 2 Hands, 4 Hands, Fairy Reel (6 Hand), and 8 Hands Ceili
Irish Dance Workshops are led by Shayleen McConnell Finucan (ODCRN) with a team of dedicated teaching assistants from McConnell Irish Dance.
Shayleen McConnell Finucan has over 30 years of teaching experience, from a family of Irish dance teachers going back three generations. Shayleen is a certified member of CRN Cumann Rince Náisiúnta, having obtained both TMCRN and ODCRN qualification. She is currently training for ADCRN, Irish Dance Adjudicator certification. Shayleen is the first CRN certified instructor in Canada and represents the CRN North American West region on the CRN executive committee.
McConnell Irish Dance was originally founded in Ireland over 100 years ago in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, McConnell School of Dance was established in Winnipeg, Canada in 1947 by the late Sam & Sarah McConnell.
The school offers classes for Recreational, Competitive, and Performance Irish dance for dancers of all ages and abilities, including adult classes. Private lessons and Competitive Coaching are also offered.
